Howard P. Lewis has been re-elected chair of the National Lighting Bureau (NLB). He represents the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) at the Bureau, which was founded in 1976 and is an independent, not-for-profit, lighting-education organization sponsored by professional societies, trade associations, manufacturers, utilities, and agencies of the U.S. government.
Lewis is president of Lighting Alternatives; a fluorescent fixture manufacturer headquartered in Cherry Hill, N.J., and recently completed his third, nonconsecutive term as president of the IES Philadelphia Section. Prior to establishing Lighting Alternatives in 2003, Lewis spent more than 30 years in lighting, with an emphasis on product manufacturing.
Also re-elected to Bureau offices were Vice Chair Cary S. Mendelsohn of Imperial Lighting Maintenance Company, who represents the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), and Secretary/Treasurer James M. Yorgey, technical applications manager for Bureau Sponsor Lutron Electronics.
2010 was a banner year for the NLB through its various initiatives including the "High-Benefit Lighting" program. "The Bureau ordinarily reaches 5- to 6- million lighting decision-makers each year," says Lewis. "Last year we reached an estimated 30-million people, more than ever before. We are helping people around the world make good decisions about lighting."
