Kone’s carbon-fiber UltraRope technology is an alternative to steel cables in elevators. Debuting in 2013, the product is currently in use at the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore, and is now being installed in the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. At the 2015 AIA Convention in Atlanta, ARCHITECT associate editor Hallie Busta spoke with Emily Brattin, a marketing and communications manager at Kone, about how UltraRope performs relative to steel.
