This professional couple with young children enjoy the amenities of living in the central city with easy access to their offices, neighborhood parks, and shops. They wanted to improve the home’s layout and traffic flow, create more direct access to the backyard, upgrade the kitchen, and add a second story—all with the highest level of energy efficiency possible.
We maintained the footprint of the existing house by creating an open-plan interior oriented toward outdoor living, including a new shaded deck and swimming pool at the rear of the lot. High windows above a centrally located stair bring additional light into the home. The new second floor addition includes the master suite, kids’ rooms and shared bath, and laundry room.
This Austin Energy five-star rated renovation and second story addition in Bryker Woods respects the historic character of the neighborhood while providing additional space for a family of four. The owners valued keeping the home's exterior look true to its original style, while the interior reflects their contemporary design sense as seen in the cabinetry styling, finish selections, and lighting design.
