1 MIN READ

On April 22, 2008, architecture, city planning, and preservation experts will gather at the National Building Museum (NBM) in Washington, D.C., for a panel discussion on China’s expanding economy and need for smarter growth and urban planning. The panel, “Planning for a Chinese Century,” is part of the NBM’s For the Greener Good lecture series.

The New Yorker architecture critic Paul Goldberger will moderate and will be joined by Chinese journalist Wang Jun, who has written extensively on preservation issues; Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design deputy director Ma Liangwei; and Dennis Pieprz, president of Sasaki Associates, who developed the master plan for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Working with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the American Planning Association, “Planning for a Chinese Century” will focus on the plans for the 2008 Summer Olympic in Beijing and look at how creating green buildings and preserving existing structures is critical for China and for the rest of the world. The program runs from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visit www.nbm.org to register and for ticket prices.
