In an exciting development for Brooklyn's Boerum Hill, Avdoo & Partners Development has unveiled plans for "Bergen," their latest residential project set to redefine the neighborhood's skyline. With sales anticipated to launch in Spring 2024, this project promises to bring a new level of architectural sophistication to the area known for rows of brownstones, indy boutiques, and many young families.
The project has engaged the talents of the architecture studio Taller Frida Escobedo, marking the firm's inaugural foray into condominium design. This collaboration comes amid Frida Escobedo's prestigious commission to work on the new addition of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, signaling a period of significant achievement for the firm. (She also designed the Serpentine Pavilion in 2018).
Shlomi Avdoo, the principal and founder of Avdoo & Partners, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting, "We’re inspired by Frida’s strong design vision for Bergen. She’s envisioned an elegant addition to the neighborhood that is rooted in her keen sensibility of material and scale."
"Bergen" is poised to offer 105 condominium homes, ranging from studios to expansive five-bedroom units across 53 unique layouts, with starting prices at $700,000. In a pursuit to merge indoor comfort with outdoor accessibility, an impressive 75% of the units will feature private outdoor spaces. Additionally, a residents-only park is in the works, envisioned by the master planning and landscape design expertise of DXA Studio and Patrick Cullina.
The architectural vision for "Bergen" has been a collaborative triumph. Frida Escobedo and her team worked closely with DXA Studio to ideate the project, culminating in a design that features two residential wings connected by a transparent central amenity space. This structure boasts an undulating façade with strategically placed openings to foster a sense of openness and connectivity.
Escobedo shared her perspective on the project, stating, "It has been an incredibly collaborative process and sincere pleasure working with Avdoo, DXA, and Workstead on this project. From conceptualizing the design to the last detail, we felt a responsibility to approach Bergen in a way that would be respectful of the character of the neighborhood and the surrounding environment while creating something new that would stand the test of time."

The project's design emphasizes harmony with the neighborhood's character, integrating light and air through its angled facade and bespoke handmade blocks. The architectural scheme cleverly maximizes natural light and creates a rhythmic interplay of scale, materiality, and color.
At the heart of "Bergen" will be the "Glass House," a curtain-walled volume serving as the main entrance and linking the residential wings. This feature underscores the project's commitment to blending indoor and outdoor elements seamlessly.

Prospective residents can look forward to over 14,500 square feet of interior amenities spread across four levels, including a unique cylindrical stairway designed to enhance the natural light flow. The development also boasts 12,000 square feet of external amenities, with highlights such as "Dean Park" and two communal rooftop parks, underscoring the project's luxurious lifestyle offerings. The completion is targeted for 2025.
