nominate an endangered historic site

The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) has opened nominations for the 2010 version of its “America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places” list, an annual register highlighting architecturally, culturally, and naturally significant examples of American heritage at risk for destruction or damage.

The list serves “as an alarm bell, a call to all Americans to realize that some of our most important treasures are in trouble,” said National Trust president Richard Moe in an announcement about the list. Since beginning the list in 1988, the National Trust has registered more than 200 unique and historic treasures, from rural landscapes to urban districts, single buildings or entire communities, threatened by neglect, insufficient funds, inappropriate development, or insensitive public policy.

Members of the public may nominate endangered historic sites at www.preservationnation.org/11Most through Jan. 8, 2010. The “2010 America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places” list will be announced May 19, 2010.
