Project Description
With 5.6 million inhabitants, Ahmedabad is India's fourth-largest city, and the economic centre of the western Indian state of Gujarat. In recent years, the sleeping beauty has awakened and the city is booming as never before. New construction projects are bringing the metropolitan area up to the level of other major world cities. Blocher Blocher India has built a mixed-use building with a cubature-and-façade design that provides a valuable accentuation for Ahmedabad's inner city. The ten-storey building with its long-drawn-out oval shape is located on a small plateau, where it provides a remarkable structural upgrade for the neighbourhood. Horizontal shadow gaps lend the façade structure and depth, while small colour-tinted windows give the glass façade variation. The building consists of three functional levels: the two-storey storefront on the ground floor, the office storeys and the vertically inserted atrium, which serves not only for access but also as a meeting point. The building is recessed from the street; in front of it is a generously dimensioned plaza through which the mall is accessed. It is a building that is truly successful in every sense of the word.
