Project Description

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

The objective for this family estate was to create a simple, elegant and inviting space for family and friends with strong connections to the outdoors. By setting the building roughly 30 degrees off axis, vanishing vistas were created from each major space and the sense of space surrounding the home increased. The resulting trapezoidal exterior spaces were transformed into landscaped outdoor rooms with extensive private gardens, terraces, and a swimming pool. Mature trees and 20′ tall hedges provide total privacy from the neighboring houses.

The house is approached from the west along a long private driveway. A linear walkway leads to the main entry, located at the hinge of an L-shaped plan. A three-story, cast-in-place stair core adjacent to the entry is joined by two additional concrete elements in the living and dining rooms, and together these features visually anchor the composition. The remainder of the house is clad with white stucco as a quiet counterpoint.
