Project Description
This project was selected as an Honor winner in the 2024 Residential Architect Design Awards, Spotlight Focus Fireplace category.
This marble-style, double-sided fireplace anchoring a two-story foyer of a multifamily community called Atwood in Saugus, Mass., warmly welcomes guests and provides the lounge and coworking spaces a shared focal point.
The large-scale glass firebox provides a view into each space and radiates luxury with a cream-colored stone surround with gray veining that complements the environment’s deep turquoise, rich plum, and emerald green jewel tones.
Residents can grab a book from an adjoining library and read by the fireplace’s comforting glow. During New England’s long winters, especially, the fireplace is a popular gathering spot in a community with no shortage of amenities. The first floor features a chef’s kitchen, pub and gaming lounge and a dog spa, while the second floor includes a rock-climbing wall, a dedicated children’s play area, and a fitness and yoga center overlooking the grand staircase and foyer below. Making your way to the top floor, you’ll find a maker space, a roof-top deck and sky lounge offering sweeping views of a wooded hilltop. And that’s just the inside. Outside: pool, dog park, fitness equipment, resident gardens and more.
The fireplace, however, remains the beating heart of the 300-unit Atwood community.
