Project Description
Our design-build team created spaces that fulfilled the owner’s desire for a larger home with an emphasis on open serene space both inside and outdoors. The owner’s wanted a relaxing spacious outdoor living area suitable for entertainment and recreation. The challenge was to convert the maze of rooms and hallways into an inviting space, suitable for entertaining both inside and outdoors, while respecting the original building form. The following are Exceptional Features of the project. 1. Located within a national historic district, this 1936 homestead is an original example of Craftsman Style Architecture. 2. Additions where designed that blend with, rather than overpower the historic design. A strict requirement within the historic district. 3. Salvaged brick was used throughout the project giving a historic feel to the new fireplaces, walks and banister. The brick provides a historic feel to the outdoor living area by using it for both the outdoor fireplace and cooking area, presenting a complementing atmosphere to this outdoor space. 4. Original white oak floors where salvaged from the original home during demolition, cleaned and blended with new flooring to account for the additional square footage required. The outdoor living areas stained concrete floor provides a complementary transition from the interior oak flooring. This concrete extends to the pool area. 5. Exterior heaters and fans are included in the outdoor living area to provide a comfortable environment during all seasons of the year. Being within “the historic district”, additions were designed that blend with, rather than overpower the landmark neighborhood. Plans were approved by Historic Review Board prior to construction.
