Project Description
Beautifully situated on a rise overlooking an urban lake, this dynamic modern home is averitable urban oasis. Designed to provide extraordinary views of a lake and city skyline, the home features a balance of public and private spaces including a spacious garden courtyard with a swimming pool and patio. In response to the deep, oddly-shaped lot, the architects stepped the house back from the street and designed three pavilions interconnected by transparent garden spaces. Planted with sculptural trees, the garden spaces invite natural light into each level, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior environments. The graceful, L-shaped plan cradles the garden courtyard and swimming pool while large sliding glass doors open from the living room and dining room. The upper level master suite projects out towards the city, creating another outdoor seating area on the main level. Finished with a sophisticated palette of materials including light stucco and marble and dark cedar siding and metal accents, this modern house is an exciting and intriguing addition to the established neighborhood. Aficionados of architecture, the clients had designed and built many custom traditional homes but with this project, they were looking for a modern departure. Set back from the street with a long driveway, the house offers a series of moments that progress from public to personal, revealing its soul only to the homeowners and their guests.
