Callard has long been home to the Admissions staff at Millbrook. In fact it was a house, and that hominess has been a much loved feature of the building for its purpose. As Alumni Affairs moved from Callard, Admissions took that opportunity for a long-awaited facelift. The brief: reinforce the comfortable home-like character, communicate the qualities that make Millbrook, Millbrook, focus on the gorgeous views of the campus, use colors that support the school brand, and remember that the goal is to make prospective families, and particularly the students, feel warmly welcomed and comfortable.
The VMA Interiors Studio, worked within a tight budget, which included some minor alterations, repairs, new carpeting, floor refinishing and lighting. We first looked to reuse as many pieces as possible, filling in as necessary. The blue, white and grey palette was established based on Millbrook’s school colors, with gold and red accents to brighten and add warmth. Small scaled furniture was used to maximize seating and to make the small offices feel larger and more comfortable.
The finishing touch was to install original artwork completed by the Millbrook students themselves. The result: a fresh and friendly environment that feels young, yet traditional. The windows were kept free of fabric so the views are enhanced. The quality of the school, their focus on the individual and community service, their attention to detail and the creativity of their students are all subtly communicated and the Admissions team couldn’t be happier.
