Project Description
This modest 2,000 SF home in the hills above the Sonoma Valley is part of a series of prototypes for highly site-responsive, environmentally sensitive and affordable homes. Here, the two private wings wrap around to create a protected open-air courtyard at the center of the form. This courtyard links the entry to the living space, the cantilevered deck and views beyond. The project argues that through sensitive and efficient design one can create a home customized to its site, even within a relatively contained footprint. By fostering the connection between indoor and outdoor space and tailoring our project to capture views, we are able to expand the sense of space to be far greater than the square footage would belie.
