Project Description
The University of Florida new baseball stadium, Florida Ballpark at Alfred A. McKethan Field, in Gainesville, Florida, is just one part of the University Athletic Association’s Facilities Master Plan designed to enhance the overall experience of players and spectators in their facilities. The state-of-the-art $55 million, 7,000-seat (4,200 fixed), 135,000-square-foot stadium features all of the modern amenities a fan could imagine—including a 360-degree open concourse and seating, which allows fans to walk around the venue without losing sight of the action on the field.
Rather than displacing the baseball team for an extended period by rebuilding on the same site, the athletic department decided to move the baseball team to a new home on campus near the softball complex. The new location not only provides a convenient location for the baseball team but also makes room for construction of a new, Walter P Moore-designed, football training complex on the old baseball stadium site.
Having a long-standing relationship with the University of Florida, Walter P Moore was the structural engineer for the new baseball stadium. Additionally, Walter P Moore worked with Populous and Walker Architects, the prime and local architects for the venue.
