Project Description
• 13,000 SF Renovation
• 10,000 SF Expansion
• renovation of existing building
• new 85 person community room
• new children’s wing
The expansion at the Hockessin Public Library is a pair of pavilions in the landscape—the community room and children’s
pavilion. The building embraces the landscape and captures scenic views of the park beyond. This gesture to the park is
celebrated by the children’s pavilion cantilever, which extends over the county park’s flood plain. In addition, ceramic pattern on the glazing shields intense sunlight and recalls the hanging foliage of the willows in the adjacent park. The project expands the existing 15,000 gsf library by adding to the most heavily utilized functions: the children’s collection, community
meeting rooms and the public access services. This expansion allows for a significant increase in overall collections and
seating to meet the demands of a growing community.
