Project Description
Project Scope: Our clients wanted to transform their unfinished basement into a beautifully finished space. We were tasked with coming up with a design that included an elaborate bar area, a comfortable entertainment area, a full bathroom, and a large open children’s play area. The space includes several wall mounted televisions, and a fully integrated surround sound system throughout the whole finished space. Objectives: • Design a welcoming and comfortable bar area that can be used to entertain guests, host large parties, or simply be a family hangout. • Create a large entertainment space within the open floor plan of the finished basement. This space was to have a 70” flat screen TV, flanked by custom built-in cabinetry. This room was to also have an elaborate AV system, and needed to be designed to fit a large plush sectional couch and loveseat. • Create a large open play space for our customer’s two small children. This area had to store many toys and small play structures, while not taking away from the elegance of the adjacent bar and entertainment area. • Design and build a full bathroom in the basement space including stand up shower, vanity sink base, and toilet. • Integrate the clients existing exterior space seamlessly into the renovation. A television was to be installed on the exterior and the AV system was to be brought out to the exterior as well. Challenges and Solutions: • These clients had many ideas for what they wanted with the bar and entertainment areas, but they had difficulty visualizing the spaces. We utilized our 3D design capabilities to show them exactly what the space would look like prior to entering into production. We had multiple design meetings prior to the start of the project and during the renovation. • The original construction of the house had many structural columns supporting the house above. We brought in a structural engineer during the design phase and installed a recessed steel beam to eliminate some of these columns to allow our design to flow properly. • There was no infrastructure for the bathroom in place. We had to cut a channel in the concrete floor, then dig for and install a pump to tie into the existing house drain. • The water main supply for the house was not adequate for us to add an additional bathroom in the basement. We had to upgrade the main line to accommodate this. • The customer wanted to add a sink in the bar area, we added an additional small pump in an unfinished area to accommodate this plumbing. Results: Our clients are thrilled with their new space and use it daily. It has replaced their first floor living room as their everyday hangout. The bar is fully stocked and is a great place to watch a game with friends or just relax after a long work week. The entertainment center is a perfect spot to stay in for a nice movie night. Final Description: We truly value our Design Build Process which provides an exceptional experience for our clients. By taking the time before construction even begins, to plan design, to make product selections, to use 3D design software and to provide a fixed cost, the process of actually renovating the home goes much smoother with very few change orders. Our clients value our expertise at the beginning of the process and as unforeseen circumstances arise. We thoroughly enjoy being able to help make someone’s dream for their home a reality and we strive to accomplish this with the least stress possible on them.
