Project Description

Project Scope: Our clients wanted us to transform a large empty room on the second floor of their home into their dream bathroom. We integrated a large shower space which included a steam unit, conventional shower head, rain head, hand shower, and multiple body sprays. We also incorporated into the design a 6’ long heated standalone tub unit, his and hers matching vanities on freestanding leg systems with custom made Carrara Marble countertops, as well as many custom made build-in’s, paneling and trim. The floors, walls, and most trim is Carrara Marble tile. We also roughed in a future bathroom in the adjacent space for future use. Objectives: • Integrate many unique features and fixtures into a tight floor plan space. • Create a luxurious steam shower design with a large bench, various shower heads and body sprays. • Create a custom makeup station with cabinetry built on site. • Build custom linen storage cabinetry on site • Install custom made Carrara Marble stone inserts in front of each vanity. • Install custom ordered hydronic towel warmer on outside of shower wall. Challenges and Solutions: • The house was built in 1822, which created many unique challenges during this remodel. The floor and ceiling were extremely out of level. We had to build up the existing floors and ceilings with tapered framing members to create a level surface to work with. • The space we were working in was a large empty space that did not have any existing plumbing in it. All of the plumbing for this new master bathroom had to be creatively run through the existing house, requiring us to build chases on the first floor and reinforce a great deal of floor framing to allow pipes to be run to and from the space. • The existing plumbing and electrical infrastructure in the house were not adequate to support all the features of this new bathroom. We updated both services as a part of this project. Two separate on demand water heaters were installed in the basement, one was to provide the needed hot water for the new shower and all of the new features, the other was to supply the water for the hydronic towel warmer and radiant heat loop in the shower floor. • Because of the tight space, we had to come up with some creative methods to house the mechanical components. The steam unit was built in under the bench in the shower. The turbine motor for the jet tub was housed in a custom built-in night stand in the adjacent bedroom. There is a removable wall panel on the back side of the shower plumbing wall that allows access to the electrical components of the shower control system. Results: Our clients are very happy with their new master bathroom. We were successful at incorporating all of their wants and needs into the space and they are enjoying it daily. The bathroom serves as a spa like retreat for the family; whether lounging in the heated jet tub, enjoying a luxurious steam shower, or comfortably applying makeup at the custom built makeup station, this bathroom is truly a great escape for our customers. We are extremely proud of how this project came out and look forward to a continued relationship with this valued customer. Final Description: We truly value our Design Build Process which provides an exceptional experience for our clients. By taking the time before construction even begins, to plan design, to make product selections, to use 3D design software and to provide a fixed cost, the process of actually renovating the home goes much smoother with very few change orders. Our clients value our expertise at the beginning of the process and as unforeseen circumstances arise. We thoroughly enjoy being able to help make someone’s dream for their home a reality and we strive to accomplish this with the least stress possible on them.
