Project Description
Twenty years after remodeling this client’s home, Mark McInturff and his team were called back with a new mission: to update the back patio with a new screened porch and pool. The project was complicated by the sloping site, which meant that in order to install the pool on a flat surface, the only option to locate the pool just 4 feet from the yard entrance. The result is a slender pool and an open terrace.
However, the crowning jewel is the woodwork of the screened porch, which is an exercise in “dappled sun and carpentry,” says McInturff. “It’s a big upside-down basket. All of that is put together really carefully, and when you do a building like this, every connection is visible; you are not hiding anything behind drywall,” he says. "“It requires a lot of effort and design and requires a good carpenter.”
For McInturff, the project was a way to show off fine craftsmanship. “It’s always nice to sink your teeth into something kind of precious where every detail has been considered.”--by Helena Okolicsanyi
