Project Description
Seeking to bring together its Film and Media Studies and Theater programs while creating a welcoming gateway to Lafayette College’s campus, the City of Easton, and Williams Arts Campus, the College teamed up with KSS to complete two projects that transformed the front door of its campus into a vibrant arts community. Together, the renovation of the Film and Media Studies Mohican Building and new Theater Building provide opportunity for new cross-department collaboration, create a welcoming center for community engagement, and preserve and protect the sensitive natural environment surrounding the Bushkill Creek. Situated along Easton’s main thoroughfare, the new Theater Building is lifted off the floodplain creating a suitably dramatic statement for Lafayette at the gateway of campus. Designed with sustainability and responsible stormwater management in mind, it incorporates solar panels and a green roof. Visitors pass through Lafayette’s “arts walk” and existing sculpture plaza to enter the Theater Building through a stunning glass vestibule. Moving up to a central lobby, students and the public find ample room for college and city events. The renovation of the Mohican Building provides much-needed room for faculty offices and strengthens the building’s flood protection.
