Project Description
Nestled into an undeveloped secluded city green space, the modern home’s open floor plan connects the integrated living, dining, and kitchen space with views of a large walnut grove and creek. A palette of natural materials including exterior stucco, ipe wood siding, bamboo floors and doors, and rift sawn oak cabinets reflect the family values of modern simplicity.
Its passive solar design features deep roof overhangs and large openings, which allow the living area to be warmed by the winter sun and shaded from intense summer heat. Opposing windows provide balanced daylight and natural cross ventilation, cooling the living space on hot afternoons and evenings.
The energy efficient building envelope was constructed with structurally insulated panel system exterior walls, high performance windows and doors, and a reflective white roof. A geothermal heating and cooling system uses the earth’s constant ground temperatures to heat and cool the house and pre-heat hot water.
