Project Description

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

This house is sited on a tapered cul-de-sac lot and it incorporates double storied, over-scaled porch elements with a discrete entrance and deliberate entry sequence that reveals the views in a dramatic fashion. From the rear, horizontal layers emerge from the landscape, while the presence at the entrance of the house is distinctly more urban and vertical.

The sequence through the double story entry hall becomes a threshold to the horizontal view of the city where telescoping doors disappear, transforming the living room into an open loft-like space, enclosed but engaged with the landscape beyond. Adjacent to the living room, connected by one of the disappearing glass walls is an additional outdoor room that similarly maintains this balance between enclosure and immersion with the outdoors. The main level is subtly lifted from the ground plane, creating a layer of terracing that extends the topographic shifts of the landscape into the house.
