Project Description
The Nicetown Boys & Girls Club of Philadelphia was anything but "nice" when it caught the eye of MLB All-Star and Philadelphia Phillies center fielder, Shane Victorino, and his wife, Melissa Smith. The facility, located in an impoverished area of the city, was 105 years-old and looked every bit its age.
Victorino, affectionately known as the "Flyin' Hawaiian" by his teammates, established the Shane Victorino Foundation (SVF) in 2010. Dedicated to promoting opportunities for underserved youth, SVF has developed a long-term relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs in Victorino’s home state, Hawaii. After moving to Philadelphia in 2005, Victorino was pleased to bring his philanthropic passion to his new local community.
To meet the daily demands of play, SVF knew the Boys & Girls Club would require the most reliable sports surfacing. That's why SVF contacted Regupol America (RA).
Regupol, the inventor of recycled rubber flooring for sports and athletic surfaces, teamed with partner companies to supply a full flooring solution for the new facility.
"We've been supporting the Boys & Girls Club for years and the fact that this facility was in a nearby Philadelphia left no question. We were happy to support them however we could," said John Aten, RA Vice President of Sales.
Regupol contributed more than 9,100 square feet of Regupol® Aktiv™ recycled rubber sports flooring to the facility and 2300 sq/ft of Regupol Shock Padding for the cushioning under the gym flooring, a total value of more than $34,000.
The extremely dense, resilient, and wear-resistant surface of Regupol Aktiv is sure to serve the educational, recreational, and wellness programs of the Boys & Girls Club for years to come.
