Project Description

Bailey Edward and the UIC College of Medicine have announced plans for a new Surgical Research and Training (SRT) Laboratory that will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research environments to accommodate several 21st century instructional formats and programs.

In practice, the SRT Lab creates a highly flexible ‘plug and play’ space that can easily accommodate disparate instructional formats within an infrastructure framework that supports these activities and changes as the technologies evolve. The SRT Lab is designed to house the da Vinci Surgical System, a minimally-invasive robotic surgical system, and will also include viewing galleries for surgery as part of an integrated laboratory teaching space. The more surgeons trained in this surgery system, the shorter recovery time and reduced scarring for patients.
