Project Description
This next generation recreation facility on the east side of campus complements athletic and recreation opportunities at the existing Field House and in other recreational spaces at the University of Iowa. This very tight urban site requires vertical stacking of the recreation activities. Vertical openings within the building provide dynamic views and improve wayfinding. The concept of openness on the interior promotes social interaction and creates a user-friendly building. Views within the building, from the inside–out and from the outside–in encourage use and will exhibit the building’s activities to passers by. The building incorporates energy efficient / sustainable concepts and materials.
