Project DescriptionDesign Brief:
A contemporary twist to traditional Japanese architecture is brought to life with Sushi Hub's most popular store. A collaboration between it's urban location and signature design features form an engaging and interactive space. The concept of the urban landscape merging into the store is explored through an intricate yet bold mural applied on basalt panels. The artwork is offset against undulating waves of timber, transforming it into a three dimensional piece of art.
Site limitations have been considered and overcome through the use of color application and texture. The existing narrow and dim tenancy has been addressed. Throughout the shop color and tactile materials are strategically applied to areas bringing them to the foreground or background. Deeper tones are used at the kitchen and ceiling, whilst striking, vibrant colors are used to draw the eye towards a feature.
A design rich in character, synonymous with the Sushi Hub brand is created in Broadway. Natural and environmentally sustainable 'sisal', typically used for flooring, has been applied on the walls. Exterior faux basalt panels have been implemented into the interior space. These atypical applications reinforce the design intent of highlighting the urban environment within the shop whilst maintaining the natural zen-like notions of Japanese architecture.
