Architecture Critics on AIA Awarding Gold Medal to Julia Morgan

Critics weigh in on the decision to grant the award to Julia Morgan posthumously.

The American Institute of Architects awarded Julia Morgan the 2014 Gold Medal Thursday, which was met with mixed reviews. On the one hand, it marked a historic moment—for the first time, the prestigious award went to a woman. But others argued that choosing a woman architect who died more than 50 years ago was a slight to today’s successful women architects.
