Eight design proposals for the U.K.’s pavilion at next year’s Milan Expo were unveiled today.
Milan Expo 2015 opens on May 1st of next year, and will include pavilions from more than 140 countries under the theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.” The expo site’s master plan was designed by Stefano Boeri, Richard Burdett, Jacques Herzog, Hon. FAIA, Joan Busquets, and William McDonough, FAIA.
Announced in March, the shortlisted teams for the U.K. pavilion are: London-based AL_A; Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and Studio Myerscough, both based in London; London’s Asif Khan; London’s Barber & Osgerby; London’s David Kohn Architects; Bath-based Grant Associates; London’s Paul Cocksedge Studio; and Nottingham’s Wolfgang Buttress Studio.
The design proposals released today are anonymous.
The pavilion’s concept is “Grown in Britain: Shared Globally,” and the competition brief requires that 50 percent of the roughly 20,500 square-foot site is open air. The teams are presenting to the jury on May 1, and a winner is slated to be announced in late May.
