Priorities
- Use green practices and principles to renovate an 1888 house and
reduce energy consumption; use additions to improve the circulation of
the rooms on all three floors
Solutions
Balancing the traditional detailing of the
original house with the clients’ modern style, LDa Architecture &
Interiors added more than 2,600 square feet to this family’s home.
The homeowners were concerned about the healthiness of their building,
so the team brought modern technology to bear on upgrading the home’s
air quality and comfort with a high-performance exterior envelope;
efficient condensing gas boiler; LED-compatible light fixtures; shading
devices; cellulose and low-density spray foam insulation; dual-flush
toilets; and FSC-certified siding, decking, and framing materials. All
this helped the home earn LEED silver certification.
Judges’ Comments
The judges liked the thoughtful, sophisticated design of this
renovation, especially the mudroom near the family entry to the house.
