Project Description

This project provides approximately 290,000 gross square feet of improved and expanded student organization, dining, meeting, and retail spaces, including the NCSU Bookstores. The existing 1972 structure was completely re-imaged, with only the 800-seat performing arts theatre remaining intact. A new 4-story atrium was carved from the existing structure, linking all the major program areas in the building. While providing strong connections to the exterior, the additions engaged every face of the existing rectangular form, providing access from all sides. Occupants include: Campus Activities, Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service, Multicultural Student Affairs, Arts NC state, Stewart theatre, Student Organization Resource Center, Student Government, Student Affairs administration, dining facilities on three floors, a 12,000-square-foot ballroom, 13 additional meeting rooms, and NCSU Bookstores. The final design is on-track for LEED Silver Certification. Phase 1 was completed in late 2013.
