Project Description

INTERACTIVE AND CONNECTIVE GUGGENHEIM

The newly designed museum consists out of sculptural volumes, constructed of local materials and inspired by Finnish culture and design. This innovative, sustainable museum emphasizes the connection between Helsinki’s identity and its historic city center, resulting in an iconic building. An impressive atrium invites visitors, gives spectacular views and enables to showcase large exhibitions. Moreover, the important relation between museum, park and waterfront is preserved.

The introduction of a “Grand Art Window” and a “Collective Art Wall” improves interaction between artist, visitor and art. A smart plug & play services grid creates flexible and future-oriented exhibition spaces, adaptable to changing conditions. A unique museum concept – featuring elements like an art laboratory, low energy use, the application of new media, immersive and 3D printing technology – articulates its innovative character. All these aspects make it the progressive and distinctive Guggenheim Helsinki museum of the 21st century.
