Project Description
Hord Coplan Macht completed a master plan update for Bryn Mawr School, one of the region’s premier K-12 girl’s schools. The Plan establishes a long-term vision for campus development to reinforce and strengthen the School’s identity and sense of place, and it also allows for a phased and rational implementation of capital projects.
The planning process occurred over a six-month period and involved extensive collaboration with the Bryn Mawr leadership team and stakeholder groups. Eight preliminary concept plans were explored prior to refinement of the final, approved plan.
The campus is landlocked within a fully developed residential neighborhood. With four points of vehicular entry, it is difficult to establish a single “front door” to the campus, and the parking needs of the campus are spread out around the edges of the campus.
After the synthesis of building and site observations, combined with comments from interviews, the master plan ranked buildings and open spaces based on their contribution to the campus’s sense of place and character. Buildings with a high contributing value will be retained and spaces with low contributing values are considered opportunities for new development.
