Project Description
In the late 90’s, LifeBridge Health System expanded by acquiring Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland. LifeBridge began a phased expansion and improvement program at the existing community hospital. Since then, HCM has provided a wide range of services including facility assessment, master planning, programming, design and construction administration.
Northwest Hospital Center was a small community hospital when it joined LifeBridge Health system. LifeBridge wanted to extend their brand and level of care to this suburban campus.
A master plan by HCM set the stage for a series of phased projects to incrementally grow and improve the existing medical center:
ER7 Emergency Department – HCM designed the second generation of the ER7 model (based on the original ER7 at Sinai Hospital) which encompasses 7 care centers with 38 exam rooms including a dedicated Rapid Care Center.
Vertical Expansion – The new vertical expansion (above ER7) provides a 16-bed ICU unit, Pre-Op and PACU expansion. The upper floors include hospice, rehabilitation and inpatient rooms. It also provides new outpatient clinical space on the ground floor which creates a new image for the entire hospital.
New Main Entry – A new main entry with a dramatic canopy for convenient, sheltered pick up and drop off reorients the campus and the new expansion.
Outpatient Clinics – The outpatient clinics were moved to the outer edge of the hospital providing easier access and updated inpatient care centers. New Centers of Excellence in care include Breast Care, Cardiology, Specialty Clinics and Hyperbaric Care.
LifeBridge has been recognized as a Green Business Leader in Baltimore. Northwest Hospital’s facilities and operations have continued to enhance LifeBridge’s sustainable practices.
