Chicago-based firm Krueck + Sexton Architects launched an initiative called “Architects Advocate on Climate Change,” Sept. 1, with an aim to raise awareness for the looming threat of our planet’s rapid increase in temperature.
The project gained traction shortly after being launched, and now has a total of 68 local firms, and 9 design and engineering firms advocating for legislation on the issue. On the day of the launch, participating firms will display a red banner on their websites in support of the initiative.
“Banners aren’t going to change environmental practices, a point [Thomas Jacobs, principal at Krueck + Sexton Architects] readily admits, and the group hasn’t made any pledges about building practices or standards focused on sustainability and emissions,” says the Curbed article, “They eventually may promote legislation, discuss reforming building codes, and even support candidates, but right now, they’re trying to expand and raise awareness.”
