During a Sept. 21 ceremony, the National Building Museum (NBM) in Washington, D.C., will bestow the 2010 Henry C. Turner Prize for Innovation in Construction Technology, along with its $25,000 honorarium, on Engineers Without Borders – USA (EWB-USA) to recognize its work connecting engineering students with development projects around the world.
Through its university and college chapters, the Boulder, Colo.–based organization is dedicated to building infrastructure in developing countries, providing clean water and sustainable energy to communities in need while instilling a sense of global responsibility in the next generation of professional engineers. EWB-USA has active projects in more than 45 countries. Each chapter makes multiyear commitments to collaborate with local communities and non-government organizations in developing countries to build necessary infrastructure.
Established in 1902, the annual Henry C. Turner Prize recognizes an invention, innovative methodology, and/or exceptional leadership by an individual or team of individuals in construction technology.
Cathy Leslie, executive director of EWB-USA, will accept the award and present an overview of the organization’s work during a public ceremony and program at NBM on Sept. 21, 6:30 – 8 p.m. To register for this event, visit the program website.
