Manufacturer Description

Located in Calhoun, Georgia within reach of the Oostanaula River and New Echota (the Capital of the Cherokee Nation), American Carpet Group was created. Historic Calhoun, Georgia is situated in Northwest Georgia where 60% of the world's carpet is produced.

The American Carpet Group was founded in 1995 by Howard "Skip" Johnson as a fiber supplier to the Accent Rug Industry. After a successful start-up of fiber extrusion and later downstream processing, the company eagerly wanted to expand their product offering, thus leading to a fully vertically integrated carpet manufacturer.

Upon graduation from Auburn University with a degree in Engineering, Skip landed in the Carpet Industry with the carpet manufacture Evans and Black, a division of Armstrong industries. This work experience provided Skip with valuable knowledge at every facet of the carpet manufacturing process. The next stop in Skip's work experience was with Beaulieu America where Skip introduced fiber extrusion to the industry at the mill level.

This multi-dimensional work experience equipped Skip with the knowledge and understanding to start American Berber and then to further develop the company into American Carpet Group as the demand for cut pile plush carpet increased in the Carpet Industry.
