Architects from around the globe submitted their best work from the past five years into the 2012 residential architect Design Awards. Our six judges spent two difficult days poring over the nearly 800 entries, in the end awarding 36 winning projects. Out of those 36 winners, one was chosen as the Project of the Year, only four were given Grand awards, and 31 received Merit awards. The selected jurors, who practice in various parts of the country and specialize in different types of residential projects, travel to ra’s office in Washington, D.C., for two days of deliberations and discussions. Our 2012 jury members were John Brown, FRAIC, housebrand; Michelle Kaufmann, AIA, LEED AP, Michelle Kaufmann Studio; Alan Organschi, Gray Organschi Architecture; Robert Sponseller, AIA, Shalom Baranes Associates; Max Strang, AIA, Max Strang Architecture; and Wayne Troyer, AIA, Wayne Troyer Architects.
