aidlin darling design, san francisco
The client for this San Francisco addition hoped to leave the original 1950s house as unaltered as possible. So Joshua Aidlin, AIA, placed the new, three-story portion within an adjoining tree grove, connecting it to the main house with a minimalist glass bridge. The trees give the steel-clad addition privacy while framing ocean views. “The temptation would have been to fill up the site on the view side,” noted a judge, applauding the project's restraint.
