The judges called this Seattle multifamily project “a very disciplined effort.” The building houses out-of-town cancer patients (and their caregivers) while they receive treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the architects at Weinstein A|U aimed to avoid an institutional feel. “We wanted it to be both ‘of the city’ and a sanctuary,” says principal Ed Weinstein, FAIA. He and project architect Scot Carr, AIA, placed the building’s common spaces on the second floor, where residents can experience varying levels of privacy and community, as well as a serene landscaped courtyard.
