This week, we're sharing projects from Amsterdam to Detroit and from Cascais, Portugal, to Vientiane, Laos, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we give more detailed coverage, we like to highlight some of the work that architecture firms share with us every day through the Project Gallery—the user-generated portion of our site. So far, we have nearly 15,000 projects, most of which were directly uploaded by firms to share with us and our readers.
In this weekly roundup, we showcase some of the coolest new projects to be added to the gallery—thanks to architects like you.

The Factory at Corktown
Detroit
McIntosh Poris Associates
"The extensive renovation involved shoring up the walls and floors and refinishing the original timber beams and wood flooring. McIntosh Poris Associates installed expansive steel windows and glass floor-to-ceiling garage doors to maximize the permeation of natural light. Brick walls, high ceilings, and exposed structure invoke a simple and industrial warehouse feeling reflective of the previous use and original architecture. New elevators, stairs, and connections between previously separate spaces were critical, as Ford prioritized easy interaction among employees and teams."

Laurel Hills Residence
Studio City, Calif.
Assembledge+
"Composed of three pavilions connected by a series of glass hallways, the single-story residence seeks to create a residential oasis in the heart of Los Angeles. The Western Red Cedar lined guest house/garage pavilion establishes a datum line that carves and connects the two larger volumes of the living and sleeping pavilions, comprised of oversized charcoal-colored board, batten extira and cement board siding. A walkway of concrete pavers, lined by wild grasses leads to the front door, passing a tranquil courtyard with olive trees."

Gardenhouse
Los Angeles
MAD Architects
"Located at 8600 Wilshire Boulevard in California’s Beverly Hills, “Gardenhouse” is a mixed-use scheme consisting of 18 residential units above ground floor commercial space. Evoking the lush landscape of Beverly Hills, the scheme becomes a “hillside village” with residential units “growing” from the building’s living green wall. Peaking above the landscaped envelope, a cluster of white façaded, irregular-shaped windows, and gabled-roof structures create a dynamic neighborhood, and a playful, witty, though simple homage to the iconic hillsides of Los Angeles."

2929Twelve
Washington, D.C.
Emotive Architecture
"2929Twelve offers its homeowners sophisticated materials and subtle, natural palettes, which provide the perfect backdrop for each owner’s individual style. The units feature Calacatta quartz countertops, gas ranges, LG stainless steel appliances, light gray Daventry hickory, wide-plank hardwood floors, in-unit laundry, walk-in closets, Nest thermostats & doorbell intercom systems and custom fixtures that complement the boutique nature of the community."

Dental Clinic Cascais
Cascais, Portugal
Sabrab SA
"The dental clinic and backoffice develop over two floors. The inspiration for this project is the windows with a view of the Sintra natural world, which floods the central area of the waiting room with natural light and around which all the compartments have been developed. Entry to the clinic and offices is through the main entrance to the building, and there is separate routes for each of the spaces, the clinic and the offices."

Alberta Bair Theater
Billings, Mont.
Cushing Terrell
"Following a feasibility study to establish priorities, the renovation and expansion focus on three primary areas: visitor experience, visitor comfort, and performance improvement. Beginning at the entry, the project reworks the street frontage by bumping out the envelope of the building to capture an area of sidewalk for an expanded lobby and ticketing area and to provide space for improved vertical circulation and ADA access. The two-story, 4,800-square-foot addition is wrapped with a glass curtain wall system making a visual connection to the activity within the theater."

Café Buratino
Vientiane, Laos
Tomi Atelier Architect and Design
"Since Rattans and Bamboos are the two command materials found in Laos, we have decided to use it as our main materials for the design features. We have applied these materials to our design in such a way that, it has a soften look on the surface and finishes, yet it also plays a big part in the overall structure. To create a focal point, at the entrance we have added some design features on the wall that goes all the way up to ceiling, where it could be seen easily through the glass doors when the customers are passing by. This sculptural design feature was done using a locally sourced rattan."

Parking Johan Cruijff ArenA, Amsterdam
Amsterdam
XML
"The design treats the parking garage as a public interior, giving the building a new relation to the city of Amsterdam. In addition to visitors to Ajax football matches, the garage is also used as a transfer hub by visitors to Amsterdam, who change here from car to public transport to travel to the historic center. Accordingly, the design approaches the garage as the ‘lobby of the city centre’."

Avling Kitchen & Brewery
Toronto
LAMAS
Built in 1949, this single-story brick-and-concrete-masonry-unit building now houses a trendy farm-to-table restaurant in Toronto’s Leslieville neighborhood. Following a renovation by local firm LAMAS with executive architect MGBA, the airy restaurant space also features a double-height brew house and an urban rooftop farm. “It’s a large space that we thought could become a hub for the neighborhood. People are in need of spaces to do work in during the day and there are a lot of young families,” said LAMAS principal Weihan Vivian Lee, AIA, in an interview with ARCHITECT.
