This week, we're sharing projects from India to Montreal, San Francisco, and China, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we cover in detail, we highlight work that architecture firms share with us every day through Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of ARCHITECT's website. To date, we have nearly 16,000 projects.

"The kitchen living and dining form a long connected space in the northwestern part of the house, which keeps the occupants together most of [the] time."

"The tower's structural solution is the 'finite' frame system—a biodegradable structure made from desert sand—a resource that is still as strong as concrete and nontoxic."

"More than 6,500 square feet of office space was designed into this tiny lot, measuring only 20 feet by 80 feet, which created numerous design challenges."

Harper Woods School District College + Career Institute, Harper Woods, Mich.
Ghafari Associates

"We achieved openness and flexibility in our design by the use of movable partitions in conjunction with a fixed hard wall that separates each of the program spaces. This allows instructors to shape their teaching spaces to meet the specific needs of their students."

Young H Design

"The idea was to create a design language which is a balance between rigid faceted surfaces, representing the abstract network of coordinates connecting the virtual world of data, teamed with more gentle lines, which symbolize physical landscapes found within the natural world."

575 Madison Avenue, New York
Amenta Emma Architects

"Amenta Emma Architects’ concept for the 2,000-square-foot spaced employs the extensive use of back-painted glass, both black and white, to make the space feel larger, its volume lifted."

Rue de la Gauchetière Loft, Montreal
Future Simple Studio

"The design is manifested through a simple concept: a box inside the box. Two glazed wooden volumes are thoughtfully arranged within the concrete structure and programmed as bedrooms."

"The traditional gable roof is offset by a modern and minimal façade. The classic shape is intentionally utilized in a contemporary way."

MicroPolis, New York
Studio ST Architects

"It is a modular system of prefabricated, energy-efficient, and cost-effective micro-homes that can be installed in already built empty urban spaces. The number of units and their organization will be adapted to the buildings in which they will be deployed."

Joe and Rika Mansueto Library at the University of Chicago, Chicago
Jahn

Located at the center of the University of Chicago campus, the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library both stores more than 3 million books and provides ample space for students and visitors. The structure's glazed dome represents "a very minimal and intelligent system for mediating between the varying exterior conditions and the desired interior comfort," according to a project description, positioning the project as a "library of the future." The project also serves as an example of the German-born, Chicago-based architect Helmut Jahn's work for his eponymous firm Jahn, which was known as Murphy/Jahn at the time of the library's completion in 2011. On Saturday, May 8, Jahn died at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of projects around the world. Read more about Jahn's life and contributions to architecture here.
