This week, we're sharing projects from London to Hyogo, Japan, and from the Faroe Islands to Chicago, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we give more detailed coverage, we like to highlight some of the work that architecture firms share with us every day through the Project Gallery—the user-generated portion of our site. So far, we have more than 14,000 projects, most of which were directly uploaded by firms to share with us and our readers.
In this weekly roundup, we showcase some of the coolest new projects to be added to the gallery—thanks to architects like you.
Spiral Garden
Hyogo, Japan
Ryuichi Ashizawa Architects & Associates
"In response to its context, the house employs local timber construction. It has a unique form, consisting of a continuous spiral that rises towards the central space. We think, the structure although is a unique form to succeed with traditional structure. The structure outline draw spiral line and beams which are radially bridged from the center cylinder pillar. This form is special, hence every joints connections are crafted by carpenter manually."

Parsons Green Nursery
London
Delve Architects
"The nursery is spread over four floors, with each area specially designed to suit the particular year group. Built in joinery is designed to be age specific for the year group at each level, such as the bespoke reading area for the older three and four-year old children on the first floor, and the tiered low-level seating under the basement skylight for one- and two-year olds. The design also extended the existing basement level, introducing large walk on skylights to bring light down from the upper levels, and create a light and open feel for the lowest classroom level. The ground floor classroom features a spectacular oversized picture window and pivot door, creating a visual link and access into the landscaped multi use garden at the rear, for all year groups."

Jinwan Aviation City Industrial Service Centre
Shuhai, China
10 DESIGN
"Designed by international architecture practice 10 Design, the Industrial Service Centre (ISC) is a socially interactive campus community which sits within a wider 3.8sqkm masterplan. ISC is the first building by 10 Design to complete on Huafa’s Jinwan Aviation City, which will subsequently include the International Business Centre and Jinwan Mall, as well as Zaha Hadid Architects’ Civic Arts Centre at its core."

1010 On The Rhine
Cincinnati, Ohio
GBBN Architects
"Situated at the midpoint of the Cincinnati’s streetcar route, 1010 On-the-Rhine has transformed a surface parking lot into a lively hub that connects two bustling development zones at opposite ends of the city: historic Over-the-Rhine and the business district around Fountain Square."

Duke University Marine Laboratory, Dr. Orrin H. Pilkey Research Laboratory
Pivers Island, N.C.
Gluck+
"Designed to stringent environmental and sustainable standards, it incorporates design solutions to address hurricane force winds, sea level rise, and storm surge concerns. The building form is a metaphor for sea-level rise (SLR), in which the laboratory containing mission-critical equipment and irreplaceable specimens is elevated well above projected SLR and storm-surge levels. The building structure and envelope use wood-framed construction and concrete masonry foundations in response to dominant local construction techniques. Material transitions are introduced at critical heights as protection from potential water damage."

Glasir–Tórshavn College
Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, Denmark
Rosan Bosch Studio
"Throughout the school, the design activates the wide hallways by moving learning situations out on the shared common areas. The movement out towards the central city square creates social and interdisciplinary synergies, so science students can get practical insights from training carpenters, while hairdressing students can exchange craft techniques with students from the clothing line."

Daley College: Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC)
Chicago
JGMA
"Rising from the transformed parking lot south of 76th Street, the new Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC) becomes a timeless addition to the Richard J Daley campus and sets the framework for a wider master plan. The project unifies the existing complex by creating a campus environment with engaging pathways and collaborative spaces throughout."

VanDyken Mechanical
Grandville, Mich.
Mathison I Mathison Architects
"The existing building was comprised of a series of closed, interior spaces, largely outdated and without access to natural light, physical connections, or common spaces from company to company. The new owners challenged Mathison | Mathison Architects to design for transformational change within the footprint of the existing building, creating a modern, high-tech environment that represents the forward-thinking, high-quality work of VanDyken Mechanical."

Islamic Cultural Center
New York
Büro Koray Duman
Envisioned by Büro Koray Duman, ARCHITECT's July Next Progressives firm, the proposal for this new cultural center integrates rigorous research "on historic Islamic Cultural Centers (Kulliyes) as well as contemporary religious centers (JCC, YMCA, etc) provided us with the idea of a vertical public landscape to create an open, transparent and welcoming space." The resulting 100,000-square-foot "public landscape wraps around the solid, stacked volumes inside, carving at necessary public volumes; auditorium, library, galleries etc. thus creating a new kind of cultural center."
