This week, we're sharing projects from Mojave Desert, Nev., to Paris, and from Seoul, South Korea, to New Haven, Conn., with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we give more detailed coverage, we highlight work that architecture firms share with us every day through the Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of our site. To date, we have more than 15,000 projects.
In this weekly roundup, we showcase some of the coolest new projects to be added to the gallery—thanks to architects like you.

Hyperloop Desert Campus
Mojave Desert, Nev.
JJP
"Taking advantage of the advancement in 3D construction, the main materials used for construction are the sand sourced on site, mixed with cement powder and color pigment. The major elements of the campus include a 500m long Hyperloop test tube, and a test platform over a dome that contains all the functional buildings of the testing center. Outside of the dome is a preserved Eco Park surrounded by 25 living quarters, all connected by secondary shuttle routes."

Hansen Road House
Bainbridge Island, Wash.
Coates Design: Architecture + Interiors | Seattle Architects
"From the outside, this home is an anonymous, almost austere, monumental façade anchored deeply into the hillside on a waterfront property. Upon entering, it becomes clear that an entirely different experience awaits on the inside, where it is warm, light, and open. The 18-inch-thick concrete walls that form two sides of the building’s exterior provide a poignant counterpoint to the warm wood and copper form that rests at a slight angle to take full advantage of the site’s water and mountain views. The concrete exterior wall and exposed concrete within the home reduce energy costs by serving as thermal mass, naturally cooling the home in the summer and retaining warmth in the winter."

Tree Life
Tulum, Mexico
DNA Barcelona Architects
"DNA Barcelona Architects presents 'Tree Life Boutique Hotel, Aldea Zamá, Tulum, Mexico,' a new project for Giada Real Estate, inspired from the Nature patterns—wooden façade and lots of greenery inside. The hotel represents a solid triangular building with the surface of 1.652 square meters with big panoramic windows all along the complex, covered by a uniquely developed tree structure that creates an interesting game of shadows and at the same time gives a feeling of protection to its guests."

Namdaemun Plaza and Underpass
Seoul, South Korea
G/O Architecture
"The Namdaemun Square project was carried out with about 2,500 square meters of ground and 1,200 square meters of underground sidewalks. G/O Architecture participated in the design of the competition under the theme of 'Looking at Namdaemun from Low Hills,' and gathered opinions from merchants, local residents, experts, and homeless people in Namdaemun area to create the current results through 26 plan-set revisions and 56 site supervision."

Connecticut Innovations
New Haven, Conn.
Amenta Emma Architects
"'The building had a lot of existing features that we were able to maximize,' says lead designer of the project, Amenta Emma Principal Tom Quarticelli. 'The high ceilings, skylights, and a long southern-facing glazed wall enabled us to create an interior bathed in natural light.' Exposed structure, HVAC, brickwork, metal panel ornamentation, and concrete floor staining are contextual with original architecture and provide an edgy industrial aesthetic.'"

Le Monde Groupe Headquarters
Paris
Snøhetta
"The project represents Le Monde Group’s reinvestment in its staff at a time where other media outlets experience a downsizing of their newsrooms, and their deep commitment to cultivating a vibrant public realm through democratic access to information and physical space. A translucent, dynamic façade and expansive public plaza express the building’s openness to its surrounding context."

Private Gallery
Moscow
QPRO
"The main task in lighting in this project was the creation of high-quality museum light for exhibitions. The best decision for this project became lighting equipment with interchangeable lenses, which makes it easy to adapt lighting if the exposure changes. The vaulted roof of the pavilion, connecting the modern gallery with neighboring buildings, is underlined by the light from the track lights. The reflected light creates the minimum level of general illumination necessary for a comfortable staying in the gallery. Luminaries with asymmetric light distribution evenly fill the wall of the pavilion, creating conditions for exhibiting different-sized paintings. Homogeneous surface pouring does not distract from the perception of architecture."

Seacliffe Apartments
Cape Town, South Africa
Design Scape Architects
"Seacliffe Apartments sit on Cape Town‘s Atlantic Seaboard in Bantry Bay. Before, it was a dilapidated shore block that required modernization to take advantage of its prime location on the bay. So, the addition of balcony modular units was used to hide the existing façade and add value to the apartments. Moreover, the system of steel structures created maximum impact for the apartment owners. As a result, we were able to achieve a modern apartment design."

DL1310 Apartments
Mexico City
Young & Ayata, Michan Architecture
Located in Mexico City's Tetelpan neighborhood, DL1310’s gently sloping site is neatly sandwiched between two existing single-family homes, both zoned for vertical development. Intent on preserving the multifamily building's interior views should such development occur in the future, New York– and Los Angeles–based Young & Ayata and local firm Michan Architecture conceived a unique fenestration scheme, canting the five-story building's windows and couching them in fair-faced concrete. Read more about the project, featured in ARCHITECT's Nov/Dec 2020 issue, here.
