This week, we're sharing projects from Florida to China, Tokyo, and Los Angeles, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we cover in detail, we highlight work that architecture firms share with us every day through Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of ARCHITECT's website. To date, we have more than 15,000 projects.

"The building grows from a slope with a maximum inclination of 20 degrees, surrounded by mountains all around. Commissioned by the Dafang County Tourism Development Office in order to provide the basic structure to promote tourism in the area, the center aims to become a symbolic landmark celebrating Yi culture."

Named an Honorable Mention winner in the 68th Annual Progressive Architecture Awards, this project features a "series of low-slung sloped roofs" that provide "a bold and recognizable identity for the Urban Awning, an affordable multifamily residential development in the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles."

"On the home’s main level, which contains the kitchen, dining, and living areas, a series of retractable window walls open the home completely to outdoor terraces wrapping the exterior. Sliding window walls in the living area, kitchen, and north bedroom complement a pair of 'guillotine' window walls in the dining area and two pivoting window walls on the south side of the living area."

Rand Elliott Architects

"The Donald Betz STEM Research and Learning Center is a 53,000-square-foot newly constructed facility that builds on established and growing programs within the University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Math & Science. The project focus was on constructing space that allows for enhanced student participation in both research and simulated work environments. "

"The 240-meter tower’s façade is gently curved to subtly contrast with the surrounding buildings. At the Northeast corner, the tower engages the ground to emphasize its verticality and to offer a clear identity for the main entry. The exterior form of the elementary school is expressed with an articulated louvered façade that provides shading and allows for landscaped classroom balconies."

KWA Construction

"Designed by the award-winning multi-disciplinary design firm GFF, the contemporary, urban apartments encompass two separate city blocks between West Rosedale and West Oleander streets and are connected via an intricately designed sky-bridge over Washington Avenue."

Clearwater Beach, Clearwater Beach, Fla.
Mathison I Mathison Architects

"The Clearwater Beach House creatively responds to the changing structural requirements to protect properties from storm surges in coastal Florida communities. Set on a corner lot in the middle of an established neighborhood between the Gulf and the Intercoastal, this renovation transformed an existing CBS (concrete block and stucco) three bedroom, ranch style house set just 4 feet above sea level."

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Expansion, Cleveland, Ohio
Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU)

In 1995, I.M. Pei completed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a geometric project that takes the form of a giant turntable. Since its completion, the Rock Hall has remained an essential economic driver for Cleveland, leading the institution to begin an extensive renovation and expansion. A design team led by the New York–based Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) won the commission with a scheme for a 50,000-square-foot triangular expansion clad in galvanized steel.
