The Emerald Queen Casino & Hotel in Tacoma, Wash., features 310,000 square feet of gaming and entertainment space, including five restaurants, a concert venue, and 2,000 slot machines. The project is built on the land of (and owned and operated by) the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, a sovereign nation committed to building a sustainable way of life for future generations.
Given this commitment, choosing sustainable products and processes when building the casino was critical to the mission of honoring and recognizing the tribe’s values. For the architect team at Cunningham Group (Minneapolis, MN), among those choices were CENTRIA’s MetalWrap insulated composite backup panels. These panels serve as the ultimate backup wall for nearly any type of exterior rainscreen system, from single-skin metal, to brick, terra cotta and others.
Product of Choice
When it came for an optimal energy efficient solution, CENTRIA’s MetalWrap—a backup wall system aiming to provide air, vapor, moisture, and thermal protection—fit the bill for Emerald Queen Casino. To achieve the sustainability goals of the project, architects and planners knew they had to select an external cladding solution that offered optimal energy performance characteristics.
Permanently bonded to a poured-in-place foam insulated core, the MetalWrap system aims to deliver enhanced thermal performance to commercial projects. For the casino, MetalWrap combines with CENTRIA’s IW series rainscreen panels, a choice that allowed the design team to eliminate exposed fasteners and create a clean aesthetic with fast installation. The combination of the two systems creates a thermally efficient, weathertight barrier.
In the end, CENTRIA’s MetalWrap met new energy codes and had the highest R-value that the architects needed to create a high-performing, comfortable environment for casino visitors and owners.
