Superhero team saves New York: The Avengers, right?
Nope—it’s Diller Scofidio + Renfro, who are the subjects of a new documentary by Checkerboard Films. The film, which premieres next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Florence Gould Hall in New York, takes a close look at two of the firm’s signature projects, the High Line and Lincoln Center. The screening will coincide with Checkerboard’s spring benefit, and all three namesake principals at Diller Scofidio + Renfro will be in attendance. As it’s a benefit, tickets for a special reception, dinner, and screening are $250. Tickets for the film screening alone are $50: not much more than you’d pay for The Avengers plus popcorn and a coke. The cause is a good one: Checkerboard Films is a maker of sophisticated documentaries on the world’s brightest lights, with subjects ranging from Studio Gang Architects to artist Kiki Smith to poet Billy Collins.
