Beijing-based architect Ma Yansong and the team at MAD Architects have created a new interactive installation for this year's Salone del Mobile Milano, which concludes at the Fiera Milano in Milan this weekend. Called the "Fifth Ring," this temporary exhibit features an illuminated ring suspended over pool of water in the central courtyard of the city's historic Seminario Arcivescovile, a structure that dates back to 1564.

Engineered by Maco Technology, and with lighting design by Artemide, the "presence of the circular ring inside the square of the courtyard’s four walls stands as a symbol of mankind’s continued search for perfection, while also defining a new dimension for the traditional courtyard," the firm said in a press release.

The reflections of the ring in the pool, as well as the introduction of mist, gives visitors "the feeling they are walking amongst the clouds," according to the release.

The installation was developed in conjunction with Italian interiors publication Interni, and will be on view until April 28.
