Construction is already underway at the site of Taichung Condominium Tower, the first project in Taiwan from Richard Meier & Partners. The 164-meter (538-foot) skyscraper is a 110-unit upscale apartment building located in the center of Taichung, and is slated for completion in March of 2018.

The project, developed by Fubon Land, is comprised of two glass-walled towers that are connected at their core. The taller north tower is oriented toward the urban landscape of the city, while the smaller south tower faces the residential neighborhoods of Taichung.

The sixteenth floor will feature a panoramic Sky Garden overlooking urban Taichung. Lower levels will house resident amenities including a swimming pool, fitness center, lounge, massage rooms, and both Western- and Chinese-styled banquet halls.

The 47-story-tall structure stands in the vicinity of Taichung’s prominent city buildings including the opera house, convention center, and newly constructed Taichung City Hall.

“The new tower responds to the scale of [the] city’s existing fabric while sustaining the modern architectural dialog, which we continue to refine and explore through our work,” Richard Meier, FAIA, said in a press release published by the firm. “We truly believe that the building will become a prominent new addition in Taichung’s city center.” Follow the links for more on Richard Meier, including the Richard Meier Model Museum and Fire Island, New York beach house.
