Each year, MoMA PS1, the Museum of Modern Art's location in Queens, New York City, holds a competition for an emerging designer to create a summer installation in the museum's courtyard. The program, now kicking off its 19th official year, today announced the finalists competing for next summer's installation: Brooklyn-based LeCavalier R+D; Los Angeles–based FreelandBuck (recently featured in ARCHITECT's Next Progressives series); Oficinaa, based in Ingolstadt, Germany, and Cambridge, Mass.; BairBalliet, based in Chicago and Los Angeles; and Minneapolis practice Dream the Combine. The winner of the 2018 program will be announced early next year.
This past summer's installation, designed by Ithaca, N.Y.–based Jenny Sabin Studio, closed on Sept. 4.
