Created as a limited edition by Los Angeles–based architecture firm Besler & Sons, Props are multipurpose geometric shapes inspired by the forms and color palettes of downtown Los Angeles' Art Deco buildings and embellished movie palaces, as well as the clean shapes of everyday objects such as food containers.
In order to form the terrazzo of Props, the designers add colored glass and marble chips to a cement mixture, and then it poured into five custom molds: The Classic Wedge, The Soupcan, The Snubnose Wedge, The Personal Pan Pizza, and the Parking Chock. Each piece is unique, bearing a different blend of marbled chips and translucent colored glass.
The mixtures sit it their molds overnight. When removed, the forms are wet ground and polished for a smooth finish. Each shape is offered in colors of white, lavender, or strawberry.
Terrazo is traditionally used as a material for flooring due to its durability. As a result, Props can serves multiple purposes, including coasters, bookends, serving platters, doorstops, and more.
