Firm Description
We are a Costa Rican Architectural firm named “Carazo Arquitectura”, our office is located in San Jose Costa Rica in the heart of the main city and capital, currently we are 20 architects, with an average age of 27. Since 2005, Rodrigo Carazo founds and runs “Carazo Arquitectura". Being a native office in Costa Rica, we have the freedom and the obligation to use the natural resources/wealth of our country for the benefit of the people and architecture by generating the least possible impact to our context, being this the main natural attraction and the main resource for the generation of clean energies, while at the same time creating new ways to experience our buildings and cities. It’s important for us to keep developing better strategies for the benefit of our country, making a change, being the difference. Costa Rica is a high developing country which we believe has an outstanding potential to improve its architecture quality. In recent years we have also ventured into the design of projects abroad; In Peru, Guatemala, and El Salvador, continually striving to adapt our design philosophy to its context and specific qualities.
The five main axes for which all projects are processed and analyzed are based on the following fundamentals:
-Specific design of the highest level of quality.
-Environmentally sustainable design.
-Economically sustainable design.
-Socially sustainable design.
-Innovation in design methodologies, and tools for our region.
The work we do in the office is planned to positively change people's lives, create spaces that benefit the user, making the environment a comfortable and pleasant ecosystem through strategies that minimize heat loads, using materials in its purest form, and by making exploration an everyday habit.
The type of architecture we do and the way we think, live and feel architecture is directed and connected with the way we live and the ecosystem we inhabit.
We want for our architecture to be a reference and a medium for dialogue that serves people who share architecture and its relation with nature as much as we do, and also make our projects a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas that benefit both of us and the general public.
